A funny and informative guide., August 10, 2009 I have to admit I was a bit reticent to get this one as there was some negativity about it. However, I am SO glad I listened to my gut instead of these others. It is one of the best books on pregnancy ever. I found out so much that I needed to know, that even my own doctor will not tell me, that I came away feeling better about the whole thing. So, if you are looking for a guide to pregnancy that will really, really tell you like it is, get this one.

Finally! A pregnancy books that tells it like it is!, February 7, 2004 Author Joanne Kimes is not afraid to be blunt, and she has a sardonic wit that makes you realize that, yes, pregnancy can suck, but you will still be smiling. It seems that most women possess a convenient amnesia about their pregnancies. You will seldom get a straight answer about the discomfort of pregnancy from a woman who has a child over the age of two. The pregnancy has been forgotten by then, replaced by the child and its ensuing responsibilities. Little things like morning sickness, cramps, and constipation are left behind. But, when a woman is pregnant, and everyone is implying that she shouldn't be feeling as bad as she does, it tends to make a woman feel like she's over-reacting.

Well, Joanne Kimes doesn't think you're over-reacting. She shares the bad and the good of pregnancy, and lets you know it's perfectly alright to be uncomfortable, sick, and grumpy while pregnant. The joys will eventually outweigh the negative aspects, but you are given permission to complain. And, with the tongue-in-cheek wit of her writing, it's a true joy to read. I felt so much better after reading this book, because it's fine if your pregnancy sucks. We are not bad mothers or bad women, we're just facing the facts! I highly recommend this book to all pregnant women.

I love this book! My back pain went away and I feel great!, March 28, 2001

By E (New York, New York USA) - See all my reviews
The book is easy to read and after doing the exercises for two months, I feel soooo much better. I really have to do the exercises every day to make a difference. This is the only book that teaches safe abdominals to do during pregnancy. It teaches you exactly how to do them correctly. I am a Personal Fitness Trainer working in NYC for 15 years and this is The book on how to exercise correctly during pregnancy. Julie Tupler knows so much about the changes your body goes through and how to cope with it all. This is a MUST for not just surviving pregnancy, but thriving while pregnanr!

Seeing benefits after one weekend!,
August 11, 2008
By Como Chameleon "nobody special" (Minneapolis, MN United States) - See all my reviews
I didn't get this book until my fifth month of pregnancy when I was searching for something to help relieve my back pain. I came across this book and after a single weekend of doing the introductory BAKS exercises, I'm feeling noticably better. I wish I had followed this program during my first pregnancy, b/c it teaches you to visualize the act of giving birth (like squeezing toothpaste from a tube), teaches you which muscles to use, and gives you the safe and effective exercises that develop those muscles. At the rist of TMI, I noticed the difference with my first bowel movement! I'm actually starting to look FORWARD to having a baby because I feel like I'm going to be prepared. I know HOW to push and I'm excited about developing my strength over the next few months so that labor isn't as exhausting as it was the first time around. I plan to write another review in December after the baby is born.

Editorial Reviews

Insightful and thoroughly readable!, January 10, 2008 Even though I am early in my pregnancy and the realities of labor loom distant, I not only enjoyed reading the stories of birth, I learned a lot about myself and my own opinions of how I want my baby's birth to happen. Ms. Zimmer captures the joys and pains of the very different styles of giving birth. What the women in this book all share, however, is a truly positive view of their labor even if it didn't go as planned. For a pregnant woman, hearing how wonderful labor can be, however it may be, is not only reassuring but exciting.

An excellent, true-to-life story of Delivery Room nursing,
August 1, 2000
I am a former Labor and Delivery Nurse of five years and I just can't believe how true and accurate Susan's account of Delivery Room nursing is. It was as if she were writing my own story. The detailed way she recalls specific patients, good and bad encounters with doctors, problems with hospital politics, certain good or bad deliveries, and her personal feelings about all of the situations is so touching and real. The book is an excellent account about what really happens in hospital delivery rooms and disqualifies the frequent notion that Labor and delivery nurses have a fun, easy job "playing with babies all day." This book is a must-read for all L&D nurses, Doulas, Midwives, mothers, and anyone specifically interested in the amazing role of a woman giving birth.

I'm ready to "start getting ready" to be a mother.,
June 4, 2001
By A Customer
I am 28 years old and I don't remember a time when I was ever excited about having a baby. I did not want children because I was so afraid of giving birth. I was terrified. I got married a year ago and I felt like I had to do something about my fear. I wanted a baby but I did not want to go through the birthing experience. I bought this book and all my life-long fears are GONE! It's incredible. For the first time in my life I feel like this something that I have control over. Something that I can do. I don't know why I ever felt any other way. Now, I feel like I can make educated choice about childbirth. I have not decided yet where I am going to give birth but it wont be in a hospital!!! I am planning on having a baby in about two years and I am starting to get ready NOW (intellectually, mentally, physically)! I am going to get all the books that Susan suggested. She sounds so awesome. I wish I could have her as my doula. From being absolutely terrified about childbirth , now I am extremely excited about being a mother. Thanks Susan, wherever you are.

Much More than just a Diet Book,
October 26, 2009
By B. Morris (Trabuco Canyon, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is one of the few books I read in a day. The Dr. has experience you can't ignore. Not only does he talk about what foods you should eat and when, but lifestyles in general and why balance is so important in our lives. I used to drink a bunch of water before bed thinking it was good for me. Little did I know it was likely causing my acid reflux and the need to take Prilosec everyday. I stopped the nighttime water and was also able to stop the Prilosec...after two years of taking it. Bottomline, if you want to live a happier, longer life, get this book. If you gain just one little health tip it will be worth the purchase price.

There's a way, says Dr. Nicholas Perricone, author of the New York Times best-seller The Wrinkle Cure, to look years younger in days - without surgery. In The Wrinkle Cure, by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, Dr. Perricone explains treatments for defying the aging process through the use of cosmeceuticals, including alpha lipoic acid, vitamin C ester and DMAE/ NTP complex, and lifestyle planning.

Dr. Perricone's revolutionary discoveries have helped thousands, including top Hollywood stars, media personalities, supermodels and recording artists. His breakthroughs show viewers that they, too, can turn back the clock.

In clear language, Dr. Perricone explains how drinking a glass of orange juice in the morning can accelerate the aging process, why dieting on rice cakes may increase wrinkles, why men seem to age better than women and why standing in the noonday sun causes the body to lose precious vitamins. He recommends a valuable procedure called the "Three-Day Nutritional Facelift" and informs readers how to decrease unwanted pro-inflammatory reactions in the body.

Not a clear picture, but it's an unused very cooling cotton baby sleeping bag. If you look at the websites for any Australian or American sleeping bags, you'll find they costs RM60 and above, AND they are very warm. Not this one. It's unused because I lost it and when I found it, my baby was too big for it.

What's a sleeping bag? A sleeping bag is like a shirt but with a skirt that acts like a blanket. You can be assured that the baby will not be suffocated because the bag does not ride up and cover the baby's face while the baby is sleeping.
